Embraced by the Atlantic Ocean, New River and myriad scenic inland waterways, Fort Lauderdale earns the designation as the "Venice of America."  My proposal honored this identity with a celebration of the waters that make the city both a destination and a place to call home.

Ten original designs for the restroom vestibules would have commemorated the ocean, the brackish water, ponds, rivers and wetlands throughout the city and surrounding areas. The ten designs will make five pairs of mosaic panels to be replicated for the restroom vestibules in each of the four terminals.  Panels would be fabricated primarily of glass smalti and high gloss hand-glazed tiles which reflect light like the surface of water.  The panels would incorporate hand-formed ceramic tile and hand cast glass intermixed with the smalti.  The varying textures and surfaces would evoke the energy, light and color of the Fort Lauderdale waterways.  These materials would invite the visitors to touch the surface further enhancing the experience.
