Syncopation Sea and Benthic Zone was commissioned by Texas A&M University Galveston for the new Ocean and Coastal Studies Building.

The installation consists of three mosaics. Syncopation Sea is composed of two tumbled smalti glass murals. The larger mural, 12 feet high and 23 feet long, is a colorful look at sea life: a school of fish, ocean currents and underwater plant life. The smaller mural is 10 feet x 10 feet with an image of a mysterious shadow and the reflected light on the sand sea floor.

Benthic Zone is a 15 inch x 43 foot sculptured relief mosaic recessed into two walls that run the width of the lobby. It depicts microscopic plankton, diatoms and other single-cell life forms. It is composed of hand formed high fired ceramic, cast glass, fused glass, flame worked glass, and tumbled smalti.
